Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS) is declared as one of the best-managed protected areas in Maharashtra. The central government panel visited all protected areas (PAs) in Maharashtra to evaluate the status of the PAs. The panel members describe TFCS to have one of the best ecotourism destinations, good recreational zones and green lungs of the megapolis. The panel pointed out some weaknesses which can make the TCFS more healthy ecosystem.

Maharashtra records the highest increase in mangrove cover throughout India The Forest Survey of India (FSI) released its latest report titled India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2019 and the analysis shows that there has been a 16.27 Sq. Km. increase in the mangrove cover in Maharashtra between 2017 and 2019. In the mangrove cover increase index Maharashtra state is second highest in India.
The state's mangrove cover increased from 304 sq km in 2017 to 320 sq km in 2019. Maharashtra has reported the second highest growth in mangrove cover, of 16.27 square kilometres, in the last two years in the country. According to the report, the total mangrove cover in the country increased by 54 sq km during this period. Of this, 6.4% was contributed by Maharashtra. This is the second highest recorded in the country.
Raigad district has recorded the maximum increase of 14.97 sq km of mangrove cover followed by Thane which together registered an increase of 15.63 sq km, whereas the increase in Mumbai Suburban district was 0.30 sq km,

Marine matters talk series will be loaded with various funfilled interactive topics such as Mangroves, Undersea life, marine mammals, migratory birds and many more interesting topics by stalwarts in this field.
It will provide opportunities to students, decision makers and stakeholders to interact, discuss and understand issues, emerging prospects in the field of coastal and marine biodiversity conservation
These talks would be arranged once every month at the Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre,Airoli. The first talk of the series was held on 5th June 2019, at Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre, Airoli
